Two Regular People Who Decided Enough Was Enough
We're Rick and Tracy and if you'd told us five years ago that we'd have financial freedom at our age from driving a truck, we would have laughed you out of the room.
How It All Started
Our Story
Rick spent 35 years working as an operator and supervisor at a power plant.
Good, honest work—but the pay hadn’t moved in years, and the hours kept getting longer.
I spent 15 years as a teacher.
I loved the kids… but the burnout was real.
We knew something had to change.
In 2017, we took a leap and bought our own insurance agency.
We thought it was our way out.
But by 2019…
The business was struggling.
And we were staring at a mountain of debt.
The Moment Everything Changed
One evening, we sat at our kitchen table and had one of those conversations.
You know the kind.
“There has to be something more than this.”
We both had Class B CDLs from driving a school bus,
so I started researching what it would take to get a Class A.
That’s when we discovered what team drivers were actually earning.
The numbers shocked us.
The more we looked into it, the more we realized:
This wasn’t just a job.
This was a way to rebuild our lives.
We enrolled in trucking school and earned our Class A CDLs in about four weeks.
When we landed our first job:
- Rick was 60
- I was 54
The Truth About That First Year
We’re not going to sugarcoat it.
It was hard.
We made mistakes.
We didn’t know how to set up the truck properly.
We spent too much on food.
We pushed ourselves too hard and dealt with exhaustion.
But little by little… we figured it out.
And once we did…
Everything started to change.
